The American food company McDonalds has unveiled a new voice experience called Apply Thru for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Apply Thru is the first voice-initiated application process says MacDonald. Those who wish to get a job at McDonald would have to say: “Talk to McDonald’s Apply Thru” or rather say “Alexa” for Alexa or “Okay Google” for Google Assistant, “Help me get a job at McDonald’s”.’
This would be an exciting way to begin appplying for a job at McDonald’s. However, the applicant would need to complete their applications via other old methods.
Information required by Alexa or Assistant to applicants would include: Name, location, the applicants area of interest, etc. That would locally be the job of Alexa or Google assistant as the applicants would get a text with a URL to be visited to complete their application.
Apply Thru is possible on devices with google assistant or Alexa. Although the company seems to be more interested in Alexa.
David Fairhurst, McDonald’s executive vice president and Chief People officer said they must continue to innovate and think of creative and i this case groundbreaking ways to meet potential job seekers on devices they are already using like Alexa. Alexa has many of the qualities we look out for on our teams. Friendly, responsive and fun.
He also explain that the compnay would make application easier for job seekers in the future. These were his exact words:
I am looking forward to having our application process simplified with Alexa
Apply Thru could be accessed in US, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, France, Germany. This is part of a global campaign with the intention of driving job applications. The company is set to extent this to other countries as the months roll out.
