Version 2.19.110 of WhatsApp came with a minor but enticing change. The latest iOS update simply turns off the unread notification badge on the app’s icon specifically for messages or chats you have muted. This minor change encompasses both group and individual chats.
This feature works mainly for those who would love to reduce distractions or unnecessary interference from large group chats. In the last version of the app, muting a chat would only silence the notification sound as well as vibration but would do nothing about the notification badge that pops up on the app’s icon.
Android users have already been catered for and this does not apply to them since a “Show notifications” toggle has already been put in place.
